2. Are there side effects associated with acupuncture?
3. How often should I be treated?
4. How quickly can I expect to feel better?

1. Is Acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture needles are not much thicker than a human hair and are very finely polished . Mostly people feel nothing at all and are surprised that a needle has entered the skin. Ocassionally the needle is felt as a small pinch which is quickly gone. Needles are then adjusted to elicit a mild "QI" sensation, which may feel dull, heavy, numb or tingling. These sensations of acupuncture indicate that the "QI" stimulation is underway. If any sensation, experienced during insertion is uncomfortable, an adjustment is made to reduce the sensation immediately. Once the needles are inserted, they are left for a period of time. At this point many people feel a deep sense of relaxation and often fall to sleep!

2. Are there any side effects associated with acupuncture?
Generally mild side effects may include, euphoria, lightheadedness, dizziness and unusually nausea. Any of these side effects should only last a short time. Because the skin has been penetrated a small bruise can occasionally occur which lightens after a few days. Unusually, certain conditions may flare for a short time afterwards which settle to an improved state and indicates effective treatment. Any side effects should be reported at your next visit.

3. How often should I receive treatments ?
The improvements with acupuncture can be felt straightaway in some cases but is often a progressive improvement over time. We suggest that 5 regular sessions can give you an appreciation of the effects of acupuncture. Naturally to achieve your goals more quickly the more frequently you receive treatments the quicker the progress.
Ask the clinic about the savings using a multiple session package.

4. How quickly can I expect to feel better?
There are several factors that will determine how many treatments will be needed. Chronic conditions, having set in over longer periods of time usually take longer to resolve. Acute conditions such as colds can respond immediately. Lifestyles affect how your health benefits progress, reducing stress, resting and eating healthily is an important basis for the extraordinary benefits of Traditional Chinese medicine. Maintaining the treatment programme with continuity produces far better results which accrue in time. Our practitioners will give you realistic timeframes for your specific condition.

5. Can I claim on my health fund?
Yes. We are registered with most health funds. If you are covered for acupuncture with your fund you will be able to claim. The amount you get back varies and will depend on your coverage with your fund. We also have a HICAPS facility so you can process your refund straight away.
