QUIT SMOKING

Smoking is a complex addiction powered by nicotine altering two chemicals in the brain - dopamine and noradrenalin. Within seven seconds of lighting a cigarette, a strong dose of nicotine is sent to the brain, creating a nicotine "rush." Many smokers consider this rush as pleasure, but in reality the satisfaction is misleading. The rush is only perceived as enjoyable because it satisfies the craving created by withdrawal, which sets about as 15 minutes after smoking a cigarette.

As time passes the smoker becomes victim to the common cycle of addiction. Despite its addictive characteristics, nicotine only stays in the body for approximately 48 hours after you have stopped smoking. Acupuncture helps people to quit smoking as it intercepts signals sent to the body by the brain that command additional nicotine, thus disturbing the addictive cycle. It can reduce withdrawal symptoms and relieve tension by triggering the release of natural chemicals within the smoker's body, including endorphins. Additionally, acupuncture treatments build internal energy and give a sense of wellbeing.

Through acupuncture, you can eliminate most nicotine cravings and significantly reduce your smoking habit. However, acupuncture will not completely kick the habit for you. It is the smoker's responsibility to commit to the stop smoking process and make it through those minimal cravings.
STOP SMOKING
At your initial appointment we will outline a number of valuable strategies that can support your desire to break the habit. Our addiction treatment program entails four sessions total over a three-week period. Each of our sessions together will involve needles being inserted into the key acupuncture points of the ear. Depending on your own unique needs, there may be some other needles placed elsewhere on the body as well. Additionally, you are provided a herbal remedy to assist the body in the detoxification process and attaining internal balance.
